In case of disc pathology, ozone could act by disrupting the double sulfur bonds reducing edema and ischemic damage of the roots through the inhibition of the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and neutralization of ROS (reactive oxygen species) and by stimulating an increased production of endogenous antioxidant enzymes. 

 It could be that the oxygen-ozone- therapy may produce a neuro-reflexed analgesic action. It can be administered via intramuscular, subcutaneous, intra-articular, intravenous or endorectal access.

Ozone is an allotropic molecule of triatomic oxygen. It exerts an antibacterial and virus static action due to peroxides. It has a lipolytic, hemorheology (increased supply of oxygen from hemoglobin), cicatrizing and antiedema action. Promotes healing, revascularization, improves perfusion and autoimmune response and promotes membrane repolarization. 

In orthopaedic medicine it functions as an analgesic due to the direct oxidation of allogeneic mediators, the inhibition of the nociceptive system through the stimulation of presso-chemo receptors and muscle spindles situated in the muscles.
